ViceScreen38d to launch

Moderator guide

Four minutes. Every rule says why it exists, because a rule without a reason gets applied badly in the cases nobody predicted — and in the first week, that will be most of them.

What you are actually deciding

A submission is a claim: "there is something at this spot". Your job is not to judge whether it is interesting. It is to judge whether somebody driving there would find what the post says.

When you approve something, it appears on the map for everyone, with no further checks. When you reject it, it disappears and the author sees your reason. Both are reversible — nothing you do here is final.

Approve when

  • It is specific. A place you could drive to. "Near the docks" is not a location; "on the roof of the blue warehouse at the north end of the docks" is.
  • The pin is in the right place. Open the coordinates. If the pin is in the ocean and the text says rooftop, something is wrong.
  • The category fits. A vehicle spawn filed under Heists will never be found by the people looking for it.
  • It reads like somebody was there. Detail that only comes from doing it — a time of day, a specific route, a thing that goes wrong.

Reject when

  • It cannot be checked. "Rare spawn, very low chance" with no conditions is not something anyone can confirm or disprove.
  • It is copied. If it reads like a wiki page or a video description, it probably is one. We do not republish other people’s work.
  • It is a joke or an advert. Obvious. Reject, give the reason, move on. Do not argue in the reason field.
  • It names a real person. Streamer handles, real names, anything that turns a map pin into a way to find someone.
  • The spot is a spoiler for a story mission. Unless the category says so. Somebody opening the map to find a car should not learn the ending.

When you are not sure

Leave it. An undecided submission is not a problem — it sits in the queue, and three community votes may settle it without you. A wrong approval is a problem, because it goes on the map with our name on it.

The one thing never to do is approve in bulk to clear the queue. A long queue costs us nothing. One fabricated location that gets screenshotted costs us the only thing we sell.

Submissions marked "automated"

Those came from our crawler, which reads public discussions and extracts anything that looks like a location. It is a machine suggesting, not a person reporting.

Hold them to a higher standard, not a lower one. The source text was written by strangers on the internet and could have been written deliberately to get something onto our map. If an automated submission reads like instructions aimed at the extraction model rather than at a player, reject it and tell us.

Rejection reasons

The author reads what you write. A reason is required, and three characters technically passes — but "no" teaches nobody anything.

"Pin is in the water, text says rooftop" takes five seconds and often gets you a corrected resubmission instead of a lost contributor. Most bad submissions are from people trying to help and getting it wrong.

What you cannot do, on purpose

You cannot delete anything. Rejecting hides it and keeps the record — when somebody asks why their point vanished, the answer has to exist somewhere. Only an admin can delete, and rarely.

You cannot give yourself or anyone else a role. The database refuses it, not just the interface — we tested that.

You cannot edit someone else’s submission. If it is almost right, reject it with a reason saying what to fix.

If something feels organised

Several accounts submitting similar things, or a point getting exactly three upvotes from new accounts within minutes — that is not normal behaviour and we want to know immediately.

Do not try to handle it alone. Say so in the moderators channel on Discord. Vote manipulation is the one failure that would make the whole map untrustworthy, and it is worth stopping fast.

Want to moderate?

We are looking for a few people before launch. You need a Discord account and a reason to care whether the map is accurate. Say hello in the Discord and mention you read this page.
